I suppose the appropriate way to begin this blog would be with an introduction of myself, and the four-legged critters that I share my life with.
| Me, Rugby, and Tucker - my first foster Aussie, adopted by my father. |
My name is Heather, and I live in Columbia, South Carolina (Lexington, to be exact). I’m young - a recent college graduate, and have been involved in rescue since 2008. I began as a foster home, working with a wonderful woman named Cathy, whose faith in me and love for Australian Shepherds allowed us to save many special dogs. When Cathy retired from rescue, I signed on with a national Aussie rescue as a foster home, and then when my regional sector broke away to create BARK, I joined. Now I serve North and South Carolina as a regional Captain for BARK, and I have many incredible foster homes who help me save more Aussies than I ever could have imagined.
I have a house full of fur kids - four dogs, and two cats. Rugby is my best friend, my heart dog, who understands every word I say in a manner that impresses me every day. He is a five year old red tri Aussie, who came home with me from Astoria, Oregon in 2007. My little princess, Delaney, is a two year old Boykin Spaniel. She is the silliest, sweetest, weirdest little girl, who completely reversed the “no dogs on the furniture” rule, simply because she’s entirely way too cute to tell no. Tag is a seven year old black lab, officially my S.O.’s dog, who still can’t figure out how he went from being the only dog to a member of this crazy family. The newest member of the family is Link - a wild pest black bi Aussie, who is, as I write this, torturing the cat. Link tries my patience daily, and has definitely earned the title “best worst dog ever”. The cats, Pangur Ban and Navi, endure the dogs with great fortitude.

Currently, I have two foster dogs - BARK dogs Cady and Gigi. Sweet girls, with their own set of quirks.
You may be wondering why this blog is called “Red Dog Life”; in short, two red dogs, Digger and Rugby, have touched my life in such a way that I chose to pass on their love for me to other Aussies who need love and care. Digger was my first Aussie - he passed in February 2007. I’ll save the story of Digger for another day. Those Aussie owners who have red boys know - red boys are like no other.
This is getting long, and I have places to be. I thank all of you who are reading, and I hope this blog can be not only a source of information, but a source of humor for you all to enjoy!
